Curry's Chronicle Spring Edition - cover to cover

The spring edition was terrific. As a "hungry for knowledge" Carson City coin collector who is north of beginner and south of intermediate, Curry's Chronicle is an absolute oasis in both amount and breadth of information. For me, one of the most important aspects of the publication is that even the most experienced and sophisticate contributors write their articles so that all the members, not just the old grizzled pros, can appreciate what is being shared.

Thanks C4OA !

I agree, it is a great issue. I was glad to see that Michael Fey wrote an article on the fake NGC and PCGS holders that have come on the market. NGC has provided some information on characteristics of the fake NGC holders and I do not believe PCGS has commented yet. I can understand the concern about broadcasting that information to the bad guys, but do we know if the fake holders are of the original "rattler" variety, newer blue insert holders or a combination of all of them?

If you haven't looked at the link Roger Pollock provided in his article on page 17 of this issue, please do. What a wonderful selection of toned CC dollars. I loved them, Roger. If you have more, please add them!

If I may add another comment, Jim Sneddon references John Willem's book on Trade Dollars frequently. Jim, you have enough information on your own collection to write a book. You should consider it. I knew nothing about Trade Dollars before I became a member and thanks to Jim I know enough now to be dangerous, as they say. Belay Off had two great articles, one on his wonderful Trade Dollar. You are too humble. You have some great coins to write about.

Garry,
I completely agree with you! When I visited Roger Pollock's site, I was astounded to find crisp, clear images of some of the most gorgeously toned coins around. (And, being a color-lover myself, I was totally green with envy!)
Mr. Sneddon certainly does have an expertise concerning Trade Dollars, but what really knocked me off my socks was his ability to remember coins he'd acquired in grade school.
This Chronicle certainly was a monster-- I loved it!

I am glad you enjoyed the color, I plan to add more pics of color and vams in an upcoming article. My son takes the pics and added a page to his website for the Curry article.

Hopefully the update will included some color and vams in GSA holders..

I think are the articles are great.

Roger, you should have your son give a tutorial here on how to take pictures like that.

I will forward your suggestion to him. Glad you like the pics.

Garry,

Check out this book..Numismatic Photography by Mark Goodman. Published by Zyrus Press in 2008, this book is written first for beginners with advanced inforamtion for experts....all without getting the two levels intertangled. A surprisingly easy read!

This issue was another in an unbroken string of excellent Club publications. The membership and our Editor/Leader all contribute knowledge, insight and enthusiasm to an amazing extent. I have enormous respect for folks who have developed the skill (perhaps art) of coin photography. Roger's website is incredible even if he has help producing the images. Keep 'em coming.

I am working on a second article and have some new acquistions to display in the near future on the website. Photography to me is more of an art and less by a book so i will let my son take care of that.

I will look for that book, thanks for the tip!
